PNRR CN00000022 AGRITECH – Development of novel sensing technologies in agriculture for the sustainable development of agri-food production

Project Title: “PNRR CN00000022 AGRITECH - Development of novel sensing technologies in agriculture for the sustainable development of agri-food production”

Project Duration: 02/2022 – 02/2026

Project Description:

The use of sensor technology in the agriculture field enables precise data acquisition and analysis, providing insights into plant health, resource dynamics, and environmental conditions. This facilitates data-driven decision-making for enhanced agricultural practices. This project aims to contribute to current research and development activities by implementing a more sustainable and cost-effective sensor development approach. Designing sensor prototypes, developing innovative solutions, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to integrate and characterize sensors in real agricultural settings are the primary goals.

In this context, the project will address specific agricultural concerns, placing emphasis on plant and soil health evaluation and resource management. A tangible contribution to the agricultural field is expected, encouraging sustainable practices, improving resource management, and promoting the use of environmentally-friendly sensor technologies.

The research activities will focus on fabricating and characterizing sensor elements (e.g., active material, substrate) initially in a controlled environment (e.g., climate chamber, gas chamber), and eventually in real agricultural settings (e.g., greenhouse and open field). The following activities are foreseen in this context:
• Develop cost-effective sensor fabrication methods
• Implement sustainable practices in sensor design
• Contribute to sensor technology R&D for agriculture
• Explore innovative sensor solutions for plant health and resource management
• Collaborate with diverse teams and research institutions
• Disseminate knowledge through workshops and research articles
• Stay updated on sensor tech and agriculture through conferences/workshops."
